The Statue (Oddshot & Wordless 68)

One day somebody decided to turn the old statue into postmodern art - I found it quite brilliant. But I could tell that people that stopped to have a look just found it odd. And some were real annoyed. Thought it was the work of a thug.. So I have chosen to publish it as an Odd Shot to hear what your opinion is...

The ceremony of compulsory rice eating (OddShot)

When I walked past this window on a street in Nikko, Japan, I thought it was the oddest thing ever with such a huge bowl of rice and the photo hanging above it. When I got back home to Sweden I looked into what it could have been all about and found that it is part of a ceremony at one of the temples in town. The ceremony of compulsory rice eating is called Gohan-shiki. It has a long history in Rinnoji Temple in Nikko. The Gohhan-shiki is carried out on April 2nd. Participants of the Gohhan-shiki will receive the big rice bowl, which contains 5.4 litters of rice. It is believed that the participants will have a family fortune and a healthy life without accidents. So what was first odd to me turned out to be a tradition there.. and that's why I love to travel. To learn about and explore other cultures and traditions.

Plask - Splash (LinsBuS)

Todays theme of the swedish photo site 'LinsBuS' is SPLASH. Right away I came to think of the day when me and my two friends climbed Yellow Mountain in China. The rain came splashing down and we were soaked from head to toe... So these are my entries for todays splashing theme! (More pics can be found here - however it is written all in Swedish since I had one of my lazy days..).

Call Me (?)

Numbers on walls.. on the street.. on building sites.. are they the workers phone numbers? Me and my friend were left baffled during our trip in China.. numbers were found everywhere in any city where some sort of renovating or building work were getting carried out.. very odd to us..

SommarLov (LinsBuS)

Odd Shot on Cockburn St

What's that lurching up Cockburn Street in Edinburgh?
A man or one of the infamous scottish ghosts?
